UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The United States on Tuesday vetoed a Security Council draft resolution that would have called for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza.
The draft resolution won 13 votes in favor among the 15 members of the Security Council. The United States voted against it. Britain abstained.
To be adopted, a Security Council draft resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no veto from any of the council's five permanent members. ■
