TEHRAN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry on Tuesday expressed willingness to further expand bilateral relations in various areas.

In a meeting in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, according to a statement published on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed hope that his visit would prepare the ground for the further expansion of relations in all areas, including politics, economy, trade, tourism, science and technology.

He praised Sri Lanka's positions on supporting the Palestinian people and Gaza in international organizations and assemblies, including the United Nations.

Sabry, for his part, stressed that the two countries had good relations and shared common grounds and values.

He said his country was experiencing an economic boom, hoping that during Sri Lanka's new economic era, ties between the two countries would further develop.

He hailed Iran's economic and industrial capabilities, voicing Sri Lanka's readiness for the implementation of Iran's economic projects in his country.
