MEXICO CITY, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday lamented the death of five Argentine tourists and a Mexican in a road accident in the southeast of the country on Sunday.

On the stretch of road that connects the Tulum resort with the town of Puerto Aventuras, "Argentine brothers and a Mexican man lost their lives," said the president, noting that the governor of Quintana Roo is already "attending to this very regrettable case."

According to preliminary data, rainfall conditions and speeding caused the vehicle carrying the Argentines to lose control and collide head-on with a tourist transport vehicle.

The attorney general's office of Quintana Roo said on Sunday that investigation is underway to determine the causes of the accident.
